Getting to Ernen by rail, air and road

Coming by car

The Valais Valley (Wallis) can be reached through multiple routes. One option is to access it via the Furka Pass or the Grimsel Pass. Another way is to travel from Bern and use the train platform at Kandersteg-Goppenstein to reach the valley.

During the summer months, Furka Pass becomes a popular scenic route for tourists and road trip enthusiasts. The pass opens up from around June to October, allowing for a beautiful drive through the Swiss Alps. The landscape is lush and vibrant, with cascading waterfalls, blooming wildflowers, and breathtaking mountain views. The road is generally clear of snow, making it easily accessible by car, motorcycle, or bicycle. During winter, the Furka Pass experiences heavy snowfall, and the road is closed to regular traffic. The Furka Tunnel serves as a vital transportation link, providing a safe and efficient passage for vehicles traveling between the cantons of Uri and Valais.
